About IAFF Local 3666

The Career Firefighters Association of Frederick County Maryland was chartered by the International Association of Firefighters in 1995 and currently represents over 400 men and women employed with the Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue. The members of local 3666 respond to over 50,000 calls annually protecting approximately 667 square miles and serving more than 250,000 citizens.

Our professional firefighters and paramedics provide coverage at 23 of Frederick Counties 29 Fire/Rescue stations. Local 3666 members staff fire and EMS units providing fire and rescue services as well as both basic and advanced life support services. In addition to these services are members staff several support services that provide training and education (Frederick County Training Center), communications (9-1-1 Center), fire investigations and inspections (Fire Marshal's Office).

Our association is dedicated to ensuring our members are provided with all the tools they require to ensure the citizens and visitors of Frederick County receive the highest level of emergency medical service and transportation, fire protection, hazardous material mitigation and technical rescue services.

Over the past years the increased demands for emergency services coupled with the increased training and certification requirements have made it impossible for Frederick County to rely solely on the volunteer fire service to answer emergency calls for service. Like many metropolitan jurisdictions throughout the country, Frederick County established a paid fire department to meet the growing needs of the community. Today, most 9-1-1 calls in Frederick County are answered by career firefighters and paramedics employed by The Division of Fire/Rescue Services.

We encourage you to tour your local fire station and see for yourself who answers your emergency calls. For more information about the Career Firefighters Association of Frederick County Maryland and the services we provide feel free to contact us anytime.

Vote AGAINST Question A on November 8

On November 8, voters will be asked to vote on Charter Amendment A. Your local fire fighters are asking you to please vote AGAINST Question A

Question A will undo important work that has created improved communications and relationship building with the County’s public safety experts - your local fire fighters. Question A attempts to remove accountability and changes how disagreements between the firefighters and County politicians are handled.

We need to work out our disagreements constructively for the safety of Frederick County.

Fire fighters valiantly serve the residents, visitors, and businesses of Frederick County. We need your help to continue to improve public safety service delivery in our growing county.

In 2018 Frederick County voters passed Question 'D' by 73%. Now, politicians are trying to reverse that 2018 question.

Right now the firefighters work with the County Executive and her/his team to improve public safety. Question 'A' is trying to undo the progress that's been made for public safety in Frederick County, ignore the will of the voters, and put public safety decisions back to the Council. The challenge is that the Council will be grid-locked or won't take action and we won't be able to move anything forward for public safety.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why haven’t I heard anything about this?

Government functions best when leaders collaborate with transparency; this ballot question appeared during Early Voting for the July Primary Election. There was no indication politicians were going to introduce a ballot question in July. This question was introduced and quickly pushed through at the last minute to have Question ‘A’ appear on the November ballot.

The voters spoke in 2018 by passing Question ‘D’ with more than 72% of the vote and we will never understand why the County Executive and Council continue to seek to harm their local firefighters.

Public safety is not the place for politics. The way things are now - collective bargaining with binding arbitration - creates a stronger relationship between the County government and your local firefighters, and ultimately a safer Frederick County.

Why does Question ‘A’ need to be defeated?

Voters need to vote AGAINST Question ‘A’ because it harms public safety. The firefighters valiantly serve the residents, visitors, and businesses of Frederick County. We need your help to continue to improve public safety service delivery in our growing county.

Currently, firefighters have a seat at the table to make public safety better in Frederick County - Question ‘A’ proposes to undo the current process that makes us safer.

How does Question ‘A’ harm public safety?

Question ‘A’ will undo important work that has created improved communications and relationship building with the County’s public safety experts - your local fire fighters.

When Question ‘D’ passed in 2018, the voters determined the firefighters should have a voice at the table to provide their expert feedback to improve service delivery for Frederick County. This give-and-take improves public safety because firefighters have an opportunity to communicate with management to provide suggestions on what is and isn’t working well for the taxpayers, firefighters, and leadership.

Question 'A' attempts to remove accountability and changes how disagreements between the firefighters and County politicians are handled. We need to work out our disagreements constructively for the safety of Frederick County.

What will Question ‘A’ cost?

Question ‘A’ is expensive! Passing this question will create frivolous unnecessary lawsuits and cost taxpayers thousands of unnecessary funds. Question ‘A’ adds language that will necessitate a lawsuit every time we have a disagreement - we know it doesn’t have to be this way.

Voting AGAINST Question A saves the taxpayers and the Local from expensive court costs.

Why is this question on the ballot this November?

Question ‘A’ is a last minute political maneuver. The County Council has proposed a ballot question to reverse a 2018 ballot question (Question ‘D’), that overwhelmingly passed in 2018. The question was proposed for the first time in July 2022 and rammed through quickly to be on the ballot in November.

This is dangerous; Question ‘A’ must be defeated. We need to keep politics out of public safety.

Didn’t the voters already vote to support the firefighters overwhelmingly when they voted for Question ‘D’ in 2018?

Yes, this issue was decided in 2018 with more than 72% of voters voting in support of the ballot question ‘D’ that improved public safety in Frederick County. Question ‘A’ should be defeated for the greater good of Frederick County - this isn’t the time to take revenge for the success of the 2018 ballot question. We should move on and continue to seek improvements for public safety - not return to previous disputes.

There will be a new County government and County Council; Question ‘A’ will limit the ability for the firefighters to work with our new elected leaders.

ATTENTION: If you live in the area of the Golden Mile, Hillcrest, Taskers Chance, or Whittier be aware!

Jun 16, 2022
ATTENTION: If you live in the area of the Golden Mile, Hillcrest, Taskers Chance, or Whittier be aware! Starting next week you and your family members will have longer wait times for Advanced Life Support (ALS) when you’re having a major medical emergency. DFRS leadership has decided to move the ALS service from 340 Montevue Ln. to the new Fire Station 29 at TJ Drive at Hayward Rd. with no plan to replace it. This is due to The Independence Hose Company and DFRS not being able to come to an agreement to allow the ALS vehicle to be stationed in their fire house on Baughmans Ln despite the $2500 yearly incentive for housing a medic unit. Wait times may be greater than 10 minutes. Those 10 minutes could mean the difference of survival for you or your family member. Contact your local official today and let them know this is not acceptable.
